Danfoss welcomes the suggested changes in the Norwegian Energy Law in conjunction with EED article 14 and appreciates the opportunity to share its views.
Waste heat from industry and commercial actors such as data centers and supermarkets has the potential to cover a significant share of the future district heating supply while increasing energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions. The EED limits the obligation to assess the potential for recovering waste heat to industry installations above 20 MW, which excludes a large share of the actual waste heat potential in Europe. We welcome that Norway plans to extend the obligation to data centers above 2 MW but would like to suggest an even wider extension to further and smaller waste heat sources in order to leverage the full potential of this low carbon heat source.
