Dato: 19.11.2024 Svartype: Med merknad I strongly condemn the proposal to amend the Immigration Act concerning family reunification for single, elderly parents. I have been a resident of Norway for the past four years, working at a senior technical level with a reputed company and contributing as a sincere taxpayer since day one. My parents faced significant financial and social challenges while raising me, yet they ensured I had the best education and opportunities for growth. Rooted in Indian culture, they believed in nurturing the next generation, even at great personal cost, and their sacrifices shaped the person I am today. Despite their struggles, they also supported their own parents with respect and devotion, exemplifying the Indian tradition of honoring and caring for elders. Inspired by their example, I am committed to continuing this legacy. A progressive nation like Norway should not have rules that separate individuals from their parents, especially when there is mutual understanding and no objections within the family about living together. Living as a united family upholds cultural values, provides emotional support, and prevents mental illnesses like loneliness and depression. Strong family bonds foster a sense of belonging and security, enabling individuals and society to thrive harmoniously. I urge the government to reconsider this proposal. Allowing individuals and families to fulfill their moral and cultural duty towards their parents aligns with the principles of inclusivity and humanity that Norway is known for.
